An RIW Matrix is a table that is used to clearly demonstrate the competencies required to hold a particular role to work in the rail industry. Competence (or competency) is the ability to demonstrate knowledge or the application of a task successfully and consistently, which can be demonstrated through qualification, accreditation, validation and re-validation authorisation, currency and certification.
These national roles are recognised by all Registered Transport Operators currently using the RIW system.
